LiUNA Local 76 Member Drives Away in New Truck at Chicago Area LECET Safety Incentive Program
July 13, 2026
BURR RIDGE – Chicago Area LECET celebrated the importance of jobsite safety July 10, 2026, by recognizing 11 outstanding LiUNA workers during its annual Safety Incentive Program, culminating with one fortunate Laborer driving home in a brand-new Chevy Colorado truck.
Held before contractors, Union leaders, family members and supporters in the parking lot of Laborers’ District Council of Chicago & Vicinity headquarters in Burr Ridge, the event honored workers demonstrating an exceptional commitment to safe work practices throughout the year. The finalists were selected from nearly 800 nominations submitted by 107 Union contractors participating in the Chicago Area LECET Safety Incentive Program.
Jamie Moberg, a 17-year member of LiUNA Local 76 nominated by Hoerr Construction, was the first finalist selected to choose a key. Moberg inserted the key into the driver’s door, and to the delight of the crowd, it unlocked. After opening the door and receiving verification from Legacy Professional Certified Public Accountants, Moberg was officially declared the winner of the new pickup truck!

Chicago Area LECET Executive Director Patrick Hosty opened the event by emphasizing the value of the long-standing Labor-Management partnership that makes the program possible. “Chicago Area LECET is a long-standing labor-management collaboration,” Hosty said. “It reflects a shared commitment to safety, workforce development, market growth, and creating lasting opportunities for our members.”
Hosty thanked both the Labor finalists and contractor partners for their commitment to building safer jobsites throughout the region. “Together, we are creating safer work sites, reducing injuries, and strengthening our workforce,” he said. “When Labor and Management work together, we build stronger teams, stronger communities, and safer job sites.”
The annual Safety Incentive Program recognizes workers who consistently lead by example and promote safe work practices every day on the job. According to Hosty, the program continues to grow because contractors make safety a priority and take the time to nominate employees who exemplify excellence in the field.

This year’s 11 finalists were randomly selected from the hundreds of qualified nominees whose employers and local Unions confirmed they had met all of the program’s safety requirements. Each finalist had previously drawn a number determining the order in which they would select a key. As their names were announced, finalists walked the red carpet, selected one of the numbered pouches, and made their way to the waiting pickup truck to see if they had chosen the winning key.
Hosty also noted that LECET continues to help lessen the financial burden placed on the truck winner by submitting a payment to the IRS to offset a significant portion of the winner’s tax liability. In addition, each of the 10 finalists who did not win the truck received a $250 check in appreciation of their outstanding commitment to safety.
