CISCO Golf Outing Brings Industry Together for a Great Cause

CISCO brought together members of the Union construction industry for a day of golf, camaraderie and giving back during its Annual Golf Outing on Sept. 14 at Bloomingdale Golf Club.

The sold-out outing marked the first under new CISCO Executive Director Stephanie Kifowit, who welcomed golfers and thanked CISCO’s Board of Directors, sponsors and supporters for making the annual event possible. She also recognized retired Executive Director Dan Allen, who hit the links as part of a foursome.

“We thank him for all his hard work and dedication to CISCO,” Kifowit said of Allen. “Thank you, Dan, for all that you’ve done for us.”

This year’s outing once again benefited Gateway to Learning, a Chicago organization that has served adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities for more than 50 years. Golfers supported the organization through raffle tickets and special activities on the course, including the Dixon Challenge.

At the luncheon, Gateway to Learning Advancement Manager Emma Kelley thanked CISCO for more than a decade of support. Guests also enjoyed desserts from Dorothy’s Sweet Shoppe, where Gateway participants learn valuable job and production skills.

“We’re really appreciative of you not only including adults with intellectual disabilities, but also uplifting them and showing that you care,” Kelley said.

CISCO also presented Allen with an award he received from the Chicago Building Congress in appreciation of his many years of service on the CBC Board of Directors and for his vision and leadership.

“What a privilege it has been to serve the Union construction industry, the contractors and Labor together,” Allen said. “What you all do here to advance our industry is incredible.”

There were plenty of bragging rights on the course as well. The Community Economic Development Association (CEDA) finished with an impressive score of 58. Barbara Bolt won the Ladies’ Longest Drive in the Fairway, while Tony Michelin of Cement Masons Local 502 captured the Men’s Longest Drive in the Fairway.

Kifowit also used the gathering to highlight September’s Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and the importance of mental health awareness in the union construction trades.

“We always have to be there for our brothers and sisters and our friends,” Kifowit said. “Learn how to be there for somebody. It’s so important. You can save a life.”
